Location: Cambridge (with travel to Huntingdon campus if required)
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week
Contract: Temporary (end date TBC)

Salary: £29,770 – £31,732 per annum

About the Role

We’re recruiting for a passionate and dedicated Student Advice and Safeguarding Officer to join a thriving Further Education college in Cambridge. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in student support, safeguarding, or youth work to make a real difference to young people’s lives.

As part of the Student Services team, you’ll provide high-quality, confidential advice and safeguarding support to students—helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a first point of contact for student safeguarding and wellbeing concerns, offering advice, information, and support
  • Manage a caseload of students, prioritising cases and creating tailored support or risk management plans
  • Liaise with internal staff, parents/carers, and external agencies to ensure effective signposting and intervention
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records using college systems (Promonitor, MyConcern, Smart Assessor)
  • Contribute to multi-agency meetings and safeguarding conferences where appropriate.
  • Deliver workshops and sessions as part of the college’s personal development and enrichment programme
  • Support the administration of college bursaries and ensure all documentation is correctly processed
  • About You

    You’ll be a compassionate, organised, and proactive individual with strong interpersonal skills and a genuine commitment to safeguarding and supporting young people.

    Essential criteria:

  • A relevant qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 4 or above in social work, youth work, community work, advice and guidance).
  • Experience working with young people in education, social care, youth work, or a related field.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and best practice.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism, empathy, and discretion.
  • Desirable:

  • Experience working in a post-16 education setting.
  • Mental Health First Aid training or equivalent.
