The Opportunity
We are seeking inspirational tutors in the St Helens area to support children and young people with a variety of special educational needs (SEND). Many of the pupils we support have become disengaged from learning due to barriers in their educational journey, including anxiety, behavioural challenges, or unmet needs in school settings.
As a SEND Specialist Tutor, you will plan and deliver personalised lessons on a 1:1 basis, tailored to each pupils individual needs. Your role will be to help bridge learning gaps, re-engage the pupil with education, and support their return to a more structured school environment.
This tuition often acts as a full educational provision, typically delivered part-time during school hours across weekdays.

Location: Various locations across St Helens
Position: SEND Specialist Tutor
Type of work: 1:1 tuition (contract/temporary basis)
Start date: ASAP
Duration: Ongoing
Rate of pay: From £25 per hour (negotiable based on experience)
Hours: Flexible scheduled during school hours, based on family availability
Requirements
QTS or equivalent qualification preferred
UK classroom teaching or tutoring experience
Experience working with children with SEND, SEMH, or challenging behaviour
PECS, Makaton, or Team Teach training is desirable but not essential
Creative, patient, and flexible in your approach to learning
Able to build positive relationships with disengaged learners
Eligibility Criteria
Right to work in the UK
Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service (or willing to obtain one)
Two professional references, preferably child-related
